Selfridges apprenticeships

Selfridges Apprenticeship Case Study  We deliver Retail Level 2 Apprenticeships across all 4 Selfridges stores as part of their Activate programme for ambitious Sales Assistants.  During the development stages of their programme, Selfridges wanted to explore how we could stretch their colleagues to ensure that they were developed fully for the next stage of their career journey, so we implemented some ILM Level 3 Management units to ensure that those needs were met.  We created custom workbooks and classroom training sessions including Selfridges specific content, and subject matter experts from across the business presented to the cohorts to put the subjects into context.  We are now working with Selfridges to develop progression routes onto Level 3 and 4 programmes.

What are the main benefits of the Activate Apprenticeship at Selfridges?
One of the benefits of the programme is that it really opens you up to the business. You get to get more involved, meeting people and gaining relationships with team members you may not have had the chance to meet otherwise.

What would you say to someone thinking of doing the Activate Apprenticeship?
If someone is thinking of starting the apprenticeship or was on the fence about it, I would advise that if they see Selfridges as somewhere they wanted to grow and build a career, then it would definitely be something worth considering. It's not an easy course, so they have to be ready to put the work in, but there will be personal benefits and reward at the end. You get out what you put into it!

It's an opportunity to learn about yourself and your business. Identifying and building on key skills that will continue to support your career and personal development in roles going forward.

What has been your most memorable personal growth and development moment on the programme?
There was a section around personal development that helped me to identify key skills that I have learned that maybe weren't so obvious, such as how I manage my time and workload, which are important skills to have to be successful!

What would you say to someone thinking of doing the Activate Apprenticeship?
Understand the commitment and time scale, but be open to opportunities that come your way - you never know what you could learn!
